After two years of joint work, the project has reached the halfway point. The Magnet alliance between the two centres, has enabled an initiative that brings materials science into the classroom through activities designed by school teachers for all grade levels.
During the first year, students worked on carbon allotropes, while in the second year the projects focused on bioinspiration in materials. This year, the activities will explore the materials used in toys. Through scientific thinking and methodology, the project aims to broaden and integrate knowledge across the school, moving from experimentation to inquiry-based learning. The project aims to be tailored to the school's educational needs.
After two years of collaboration, the school feels increasingly confident in developing such an ambitious whole-school project, taking the lead in the design of activities and fostering a more active involvement of students, who have also built a strong and trusting relationship with the researchers.
