We're hiring! New PhD positions within the Severo Ochoa programme 2025 at ICMAB

The ICMAB opens a Severo Ochoa call to apply for a PhD position within the Agencia Estatal de Investigación. It has a total of 8 PhD candidates offers!

These PhD positions are funded under the “Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence” accreditation granted to ICMAB-CSIC by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), and co-funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the CEX2023 and CEX2024 calls. This recognition allows ICMAB to recruit young researchers in its strategic research lines — Materials for Energy, Materials for Electronics, and Materials for Health — reinforcing its commitment to cutting-edge training and scientific excellence

The 8 PhD positions are distributed as follows: 4 in the Materials for Energy line, 2 in Materials for Electronics, and 2 in Materials for Health, all within the framework of our Severo Ochoa programme.

Research Projects and supervisors

The 4 different PhD projects in the Materials for Energy line are supervised, respectively, by:

  • Alejandro Goñi and Mª Isabel Carmona, of the NANOPTO group
  • Sebastián Reparaz and Riccardo Rurali, of the NANOPTO and LEEM groups respectively
  • Ana López and Eniko Gyorgy, of the SSC and LASER groups respectively
  • Teresa Puig and Kapil Gupta, of the SUMAN group and ICN2, respectively

The 2 projects in the Materials for Electronics line are supervised by:

  • Marta Mas and Esther Barrena, of the SURFACES and eMolMat groups, respectively
  • Alberto Pomar and Benjamín Martínez, of the ACNM group

Finally, the 2 projects in the Materials for Health line are supervised by:

  • Arántzazu González and Rosario Núñez, of the FunNanoSurf and LMI groups, respectively
  • Judith Guasch and Gerard Tobías, of the DBCI and SSC groups, respectively

Requirements for the candidates

  • Candidates must have a university degree and a master degree; or must hold an official university qualification from a country of the European Higher Education Area with a minimum of 300 ECTS of official university studies, of which at least 60 are at masters’ level.

  • Candidates must have a strong commitment to scientific research and an excellent academic record.

  • Candidates must have good working knowledge of English.

  • Candidates must not have benefited from a predoctoral training grant under the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation or any of the previous National Plans.
