The General CSIC Foundation promotes new collaborations in advanced materials through a networking event at the ICMAB-CSIC

The General CSIC Foundation (FGCSIC) and the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), in collaboration with ACCIÓ, held a science-business networking event today in Bellaterra (Barcelona) focused on innovation in the field of advanced materials. The initiative brought together researchers from ICMAB-CSIC and representatives of companies interested in exploring opportunities for technological collaboration and knowledge transfer.

The event, held on the 4th of June 2026, was opened by David Amabilino, Director of ICMAB-CSIC, and Jorge Cabero, Director of Innovation at the General CSIC Foundation, who emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the public research system and the business sector in order to accelerate the transfer of innovation to the market.

The program included several information sessions on collaboration mechanisms with CSIC, European and regional funding opportunities for R&D and innovation activities, as well as a guided tour of the institute’s scientific and technological facilities. Speakers included Isabel Masip from the CSIC Delegation in Catalonia, Patricia Hannon from the ICMAB Internationalization Office, and Gemma Arcalís from ACCIÓ.

The event facilitated nearly 70 B2B meetings between ICMAB-CSIC researchers and representatives of participating companies, during which they explored potential synergies and collaboration opportunities in strategic areas such as biomaterials, advanced electronics, energy, sustainable catalysis, photonics, and new functional materials. Among the participating companies were Grupo Oesía, HP, Cetaqua-Veolia, ONYRIQ Labs, and ElectroSeek, together with other businesses interested in learning about the institute’s scientific and technological capabilities and exploring opportunities for the joint development of innovation projects.

ICMAB-CSIC is an internationally recognized center for research in advanced functional materials, has more than three decades of scientific experience and conducts activities in strategic fields such as energy, electronics, and healthcare. Its capabilities range from fundamental research to prototype manufacturing and the development of technological applications, supported by specialized scientific infrastructure and services, including a Class 10,000 cleanroom facility.

Alfonso del Rey, head of the Knowledge Transfer Unit, said: "The event held at ICMAB made it possible to bring a significant number of companies closer to our center, many of which had not previously had any contact with us, and gave them the opportunity to speak with the researchers whose expertise was best suited to their technological challenges. We hope that these initial contacts will not end here and will lead to future interactions. On the other hand, it allowed our researchers to learn about the knowledge transfer activities carried out by the FGCSIC."
