The Escola Pia de Granollers visits the ICMAB to discover the secrets of nanomedicine!
On Friday, 10 May 2019, we received the visit of a class of 25 students from 4t ESO from the Escola Pia de Granollers, who came to learn about "The nanomaterials of the future for nanomedicine" and, particularly, those for drug delivery. Dr. Nora Ventosa, reseracher at the Nanomol Group, and Vicepresident of the Catalan Chemical Society (SCQ) gave a talk on nanotechnology, materials for nanomedicine and focused on liposomes and nanocapsules for drug delivety.

After the seminar, the students visited some of our Scientific Equipment Platforms:
- The Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) with Judith Oró, who explained them the diffraction phenomenon and some images of graphene and nanoparticles,
- The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Ana Esther Carrillo, who showed them some spectacular images of different materials at high resolution,
- Roberta Ceravola, from the Thermal Analysis Lab, and Head of Hygene and Safety at ICMAB, explained them the gravimetric measures to obtain information about the materials,
- Amable Bernabé, from the SoftLab, explained them the research with supercritic fluids to produce liposomes and nanocapsules for medical research.
This visit was within the ESCOLAB program, who is in charge of putting in contact the different highschools with the research centers. This year, ESCOLAB organizes a contest for the students who visit research centers "Tenim una idea": they have to give ideas to resolve a scientific challenge. In our case, our challenge is: How would you use nanotechnology and materials science to be able to improve people's life?
Thank you for the visit!
