Abstract:
Cardiac Arrhythmia (CA) is prevalent in 90% of heart patients and caused due to irregular electrical impulse propagation. In our present work, polypyrrole nanoparticles (Ppy NPs) are explored as cardiac arrhythmia treatment since they could regulate the electrical signals across cardiac cells through the inherent conductivity. The effects of Ppy NPs in Caenorhabditis elegans are investigated, particularly their pharynx, which is a regularly pumping organ to understand their possible effects in cardiac rhythm. Scaffolds containing composites of Bacterial Cellulose and Ppy NPs (BC-Ppy) are designed and their properties are investigated as a function of varying Ppy content. Finally, the behaviour of cardiac cells on these scaffolds and their potential in promoting differentiation and cardiac regeneration is presented.
