We kindly invite you to the following Technical Seminar:
David Amabilino and Anna May, ICMAB-CSIC
Wednesday 5 November 2025, 12.00 PM
ICMAB - Sala d'Actes Carles Miravitlles and ONLINE (Register here)
Social media has become an essential tool for scientists and research institutions to communicate their work, connect with peers, and engage with society. Platforms such as X (Twitter), Bluesky and LinkedIn are not only spaces for visibility and outreach — they are also dynamic environments for building scientific communities, fostering collaborations, and shaping the public perception of research.
This seminar will explore how researchers can use social media to share their science, promote their careers, and contribute to a more open and connected research ecosystem. Through practical examples and best practices from the ICMAB and beyond, we will discuss how to communicate effectively, balance personal and institutional voices, and use storytelling to make science more accessible and impactful.
Anna May Masnou is Head of Communication and Outreach at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC). She coordinates the institute’s communication strategy, science outreach activities, and digital presence. With a PhD in Materials Science and Technology and a Postgraduate Course in Science Communication, she works to make research more visible, accessible, and engaging for both scientific and general audiences. She is also committed to fostering a sense of belonging at ICMAB — helping people feel part of the institute and connected to one another beyond their research fields.
