"Quàntica i l'ICMAB” exhibition opens on 30 September 2025
The ICMAB is proud to announce the inauguration of its new exhibition, “Quàntica i l'ICMAB" (Quantum and ICMAB), on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 at 10:00 AM in the ICMAB-CSIC hall. This exhibition marks one of the first activities of the 2025–2026 academic year and celebrates the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, commemorating 100 years since the foundations of quantum mechanics were established.
The exhibition highlights research at ICMAB that explores quantum phenomena. While quantum mechanics underpins much of the Centre’s research, the exhibition focuses on selected projects that illustrate current directions in quantum science.
Exhibition Highlights
- Three thematic sections explore ICMAB research in molecular qubits, spintronics, and superconductivity.
- A chronology of quantum milestones situates these research areas within the broader historical context of quantum science.
- Visitors can explore posters, models, and interactive objects, with materials available in both Catalan and English, catering to all members of the ICMAB community.
The exhibition is the result of the work of researchers Elena Bartolomé (LMI), Anna Palau (SuperQMat), Can Onur Avci (MULFOX), Núria Crivillers (eMolMat), Lourdes Fàbrega (MULFOX) and Gervasi Herranz (MULFOX), with contributions from Ana López, Anna Drou, Carla Costa, Gerard Albújer, and Oriol Sabater.
Inauguration Day
The inauguration will take place on September 30 at 10:00 at Sala d'Actes Carla Miravitlles. The programme is as follows:
10:00-11:00: Presentation of the exhibition with some of its creators.
11:00-12:00: Seminar Victor Canivell on "The future of Quantum Computing and its impact on society" (in Catalan).
12:00: Free visit around the exhibition with drinks and snacks
The presentation will be in Catalan and Spanish, the exhibition and the activities during the following days, in Catalan and English.
Special Seminar: “The future of Quantum Computing and its impact on society”
Coinciding with the exhibition inauguration, which will start at 10:00 AM, ICMAB will host a seminar by Víctor Canivell (Qilimanjaro, Spain) on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 at 11:00 AM, in the Carles Miravitlles Auditorium and online (in Catalan).
This talk will cover:
- The current context of the ICT sector and the potential disruption caused by quantum computing.
- Three structural barriers that quantum technologies can help overcome.
- The fundamentals of quantum computing and its economic and societal impact.
- How organizations can prepare to be “quantum ready.”
Víctor Canivell is President and co-founder of Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, a leading European quantum computing startup. He has extensive experience in ICT leadership positions across multinational and European startup environments and holds a PhD in Quantum Physics from the University of Barcelona and an MBA from ESADE.
The seminar is hosted by Xavier Obradors (SUMAN group, Materials for Energy Research Line). For those wishing to meet the speaker, contact
Quantum Initiatives in Spain
As part of the International Year of Quantum 2025, Spain is fostering quantum technologies through projects such as Quantum Spain, supported by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Recovery Funds. CSIC’s Quantum Technologies PTI+ (QTEP) platform brings together researchers from multiple institutions, including ICMAB, to promote collaboration in quantum communication, computing, and sensing. Outreach efforts, including seminars, workshops, and courses, encourage public engagement and support young talent through initiatives like TalentQ.
We invite everyone to explore the exhibition and participate in the activities surrounding the Quantum 2025 initiative, celebrating the quantum era and its transformative potential.
Exhibition Dates: 30 September 2025 – After Christmas 2025
