Postdoctoral position in (Tumor) Organoid Engineering

The Dynamic Biomimetics for Cancer Immunotherapy group (DCBI) at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona – Spanish National Research Council (ICMAB-CSIC) develops advanced biomaterials for tissue modelling, especially focusing on in vitro cancer models.

Our group is interested in building functional 3D organoid systems to advance towards personalized medicine and reduce reliance on animal models.

We are currently seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher for a funded period of 1 (+1) years to be incorporated within the project ARTIS which aims at developing novel hydrogel formulations to mimic malignant human tissues in order to grow patient-derived tumor organoids (PDTOs) and use them to test novel (immuno)therapies.

Roles and Responsibilities

To implement state-of-the-art PDTO engineering workflows, including biomaterial use as well as organoid formation and characterization, the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to:

  • Develop organoid models containing immune and stromal cells.
  • Implement advanced organoid characterization methods, including cutting-edge imaging, cytometry, and multi-omics techniques to evaluate the functional performance of the PDTO models, including their therapeutic susceptibility.
  • Support biomaterial engineering to achieve robust growth and maturation of PDTOs.
  • Supervise students aligned with the goals of the ARTIS project.

Candidate profile

  • PhD in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biology or related fields.
  • Experience in organoid engineering and characterization techniques, including transcriptomics.
  • Experience in hydrogels and organoid/organ-on-chip technologies is a plus.
  • Highly motivated, creative, and able to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written)
