ICMAB Open Positions
Open Position: PhD Researcher to study biofunctionalization of particles and surfaces
Deadline: Jun 26, 2022
The FunNanoSurf group at ICMAB is looking for a Predoctoral Student to work in the framework of the European project SynEry.

Artur

The Functional Nanomaterials and Surfaces (FunNanoSurf) Group is looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to carry out research on (bio)functionalization of particles and surfaces.
The research will be part of a European project which the main goal is to reproduce the key features of erythrocytes. The main goal of the FunNanoSurf group will be the (bio)functionalization of nanoparticles and study and control their self-assembly and disassembly.
Main Tasks
The PhD fellow will be in charge of the synthesis and characterization of the particles and their functionalization with (bio)molecules and/or stimuli responsive groups. On the other hand, the control of the assembly and disassembly of the functionalized particles will be also studied.
This project takes place within a European consortium, and therefore the student will attend to meetings with the other partners and reports will be required.
Requirements
- Education: Degree and MSc in Chemistry, Nanoscience and Nanotechnoly or related discipline (MSc finished or in the last months) with all the necessary credits to start a PhD this year.
- Experience with functionalization of particles, organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry
Competences
Strong commitment, excellent communication skills, team working, and level of English.
Conditions
- Full time contract.
- Gross annual salary in accordance to a predoctoral fellow from the Spanish Ministry.
- Duration 4 years.
- Starting as soon as possible.
How to apply
Please contact Dr. Arántzazu González (

About ICMAB
The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is a multidisciplinary research center focused on cutting-edge research in functional advanced materials in the fields of ENERGY, ELECTRONICS, NANOMEDICINE and application fields yet to imagine.
The ICMAB is integrated within the Barcelona Nanocluster in Bellaterra (BNC-b), a research network that includes the UAB, the CSIC (ICMAB, IMB-CNM and ICN2) and IRTA, part of the UAB Research Park of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (PRUAB) and the ALBA Synchrotron. The BNC-b aims to share advanced scientific equipment and promote and disseminate nanoscience and nanotechnology.
The ICMAB offers a complete range of scientific services, including a 10,000 class cleanroom (the Nanoquim Platform) that are open to interested parties, whether these are academic or from industry, and it participates in all kinds of educational and promotional activities. Many ICMAB researchers teach at the UAB Master's degree in Nanotechnology and Materials Science and also on the UAB degree on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
