The Official College of Chemists of Catalonia (COQC) announced the 1st Marie Curie Prize dedicated to women and girls in chemistry.
Reason for this award was, according to them, "to provide an opportunity for participants working as chemists in our country and in our society, and to recognize the scientific and outreach activities of both established and younger female chemists."
Núria is a third-year PhD student (DOCFAM fellowship) in the Nanomol-Bio research group. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Physics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2021 and continued her education by completing a Master's degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at Grenoble Alpes University (France).
Her research career began during her undergraduate thesis, where her work on the development and characterization of fluorescent nanovesicles for bioimaging led to a patent on which she is a co-inventor. She has also worked on radiosensitive liposomes for controlled drug delivery and currently focuses her research on the in-depth characterization of the supramolecular structure of nanovesicles with antimicrobial properties.
Throughout her academic career, she has been actively involved in science outreach, delivering talks in schools and organizing both the Pint of Science festival and a spherification workshop at the Barcelona Science Festival. She is also involved with the Young Section of the Catalan Chemical Society.
About receiving this award, Núria said: "I believe it is necessary to continue highlighting the gender bias that women face in science, and this recognition underscores the value of our work as women scientists, both at the early stages of our careers and at more established points in our scientific trajectories. Receiving this award in its first edition has been a great honor. It is truly a motivation to continue working and contributing my grain of sand to the creation of knowledge in the field of supramolecular chemistry".
