The Communication and Outreach Unit has a renewed team since this October 2024!
Firstly, Anna May Masnou is reincorporated as Head of the unit after her maternity leave. Anna is the Head of Communication and Outreach at ICMAB since April 2017. She holds a PhD in Materials Science and Technology from the University of Barcelona (UB) and a Postgraduate Course in Science Communication (UVic-UCC). She is interested in the communication of research and is committed to inclusive communication. She has led several science outreach projects funded by the FECYT (MCIN) or the FGCSIC to bring research in materials science to the public in various formats (exhibition, escape room, YouTube videos, dramatised play, school workshops, etc.). She is also vice-president of the Catalan Association of Science Communication (ACCC) and member of the Gender Perspective in Science group. At ICMAB, her goal is to transmit her joy and passion for scientific communication to all the staff and to boost the center's visibility, both locally and internationally.
Secondly, we have Oriol Roig Vilaseca, who has been with us since March 2024. Oriol is in charge of giving support to the organization of events (seminars, PhD thesis defense and workshops), among other things. He holds a Chemistry Degree from the University of Barcelona (UB), and two masters: a MSc. in Research from the University of Glasgow (UofG) and a MSc. in History of Science and Scientific Communication from the UAB (UAB). His motivation is making science accessible for everyone and in every context, and helping all ICMABers in their communication needs!
Thirdly, there is Anna Drou Roget, who works half-time at ICMAB since March 2024 and who is responsible of the Outreach and Education Activities at ICMAB, among other activities. Anna holds a BSc. in Physics (UAB) and a MSc. in Physics and Sience Communication and Society (Leiden University). She has engaged in different outreach activities: from the organization of educational workshops in the non-profit organization Enginy-ERA to the collaboration in the Quantum Cosmonautes activity at CCCB with IFAE. She also worked for 1.5 years as Technician first and then Coordinator of the Communication and Outreach office at Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM). Her main motivation is to help make the science more social by reaching broader publics and to enhance scientific culture.
Last but not least, Carla Costa Gadea is the new member in charge of Audiovisual Communication, filling the gap of Jags, member of the IT Department who retired this last September (we wish you all the best, Jags!). Carla has a degree on Digital Preprinting and is currently pursuing a degree on Design and editing of multimedia publications. She is interested in creating and communicating visual messages through different media. At ICMAB, her goal is to transmit ideas, emotions and concepts attractively.
The Communication and Outreach Unit is prepared to bring ICMAB to the next level!
