The Science, Innovation and Universities Minister announced the winners of the 2024 National Research Awards, which have 20 categories and are Spain's most important recognition in the field of scientific research.

Specifically, Ramón Martínez Máñez won the Juan de la Cierva National Research Award in the area of Technology and Knowledge Transfer. Martínez is a Professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, at the Inter-University Research Institute for Molecular Recognition and Technological Development (IDM-UPV) anb member of CIBER-BBN (Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN). He has been a member of ICMAB's Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) since 2023.

"He has been awarded for the impact of his scientific activity and its transfer in the field of chemistry and, specifically, nanotechnology and its use in sensors for medical, environmental and agri-food applications. Particularly noteworthy is the large number of patents developed (40 in total) and licensed, as well as the numerous companies he has created, one of which is the first in the world focused on the development and commercialisation of senolytics" as stated by the MCIU

These awards, endowed with 30,000 euros in each category, are the highest recognition of scientific research in Spain and reflect the commitment of researchers to scientific progress and social welfare. The presentation of these awards not only demonstrates the excellence of the research carried out in Spanish institutions, but also its impact at international level and its contribution to the training of new generations of scientists.
