Visit of the CMES (Group for a Sustainable Energy Model) at ICMAB

The CMES is the "Col·lectiu per a un Nou Model Energètic i Social Sostenible". Funded in 2012, the group is formed by professionals, mainly from the engineering field, worried about the current energy model based on fossil fuels and uranium, which "will lead us to an environmental, economic and social crisis without precedents". The CMES group came to visit the ICMAB and listen to some of our researchers working on renewable energies, superconducting materials and batteries. Now, Xavier Obradors, ICMAB Director, will give a talk on "Nanotechnology and energy transition" on February 4, 2019.

The main objectives of the CMES group is to produce knowledge to encourage the energy transition to a more sustainable model, based 100 % on renewables energies, and to disseminate this knowledge to the society.

Nanotechnology and energy transition

by Xavier Obradors, ICMAB Director
On 4 February 2019, at 6:15 pm
At "Editorial Octaedro" (Bailén 5-baixos, Barcelona).

Abstract of the talk:

Visit at the ICMAB

During the visit at the ICMAB, on 15 January 2019, six members of the CMES group came and met with our Director, Xavier Obradors, which gave an introductory talk about our center and the research in the field of superconductivity, our Technology Transfer Officer, Alfonso del Rey, our Communications Officer, Anna May Masnou, our vice-director and researcher M. Rosa Palacín, which gave a talk in the field of next-generation batteries, and with researcher Mariano Campoy-Quiles, which explained the research in organic photovoltaics and thermoelectrics, and with researcher Xavier Granados.

After last year’s party being cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, we were stoked to be able to finally celebrate again! The 2021 ICMAB Party was celebrated after more than a year without live events due to the collective efforts to stop the spread of COVID. The party was not without changes, as it was celebrated entirely at ICMAB’s terrace to avoid concentrations of people inside. We celebrated on 16 July 2021 with many events, including the first CRYSTALMATCH contest, the awards ceremony for the FOTICMAB contest, the BEFORE&NOW photo activity, a tie dye workshop by Sara Ruiz, Nerea González and Lídia Ballell, a sketching workshop by Alejandro Santos, and the final of the Tennis Table tournament!
