Starting from a small gathering of the PhD fellows of ICMAB in 2011, the JPhD scientific meeting of the Barcelona Nanocluster-Bellaterra (BNC-b) that incorporates ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM and UAB has emerged as an outstanding platform for young researchers networking and scientific communication over the last 14 years. 

JPhD2025 is aimed to exchange knowledge about scientific research from different fields, share research works and communicate among the PhD researchers of the UAB Campus in an academic and scientific environment.

The meeting will integrate the entire UAB research framework and is open to other institutes and universities as well. It will be held on November 12–14, 2025, at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Campus, hosted at ICMAB.

This conference is an excellent platform for PhD candidates at any stage of their research journey to share their work, network, and foster collaborations. Our goal is to create a multidisciplinary environment that brings together young researchers from various fields, promoting the exchange of ideas across diverse scientific disciplines.

Topics

This year, the topics are:

• Biomedicine
• Energy, sustainability, and environment
• Magnetism and quantum materials
• Electronic and optical properties of materials
• Synthesis and catalysis

The topics have been carefully selected to ensure sufficient overlap among attendees, fostering interaction and encouraging them to step outside the comfort zones of their specific PhD topics.

In addition to engaging oral presentations, poster sessions, and plenary talks, this year we also offer exciting workshops and inspiring talks on scientific integrity and transitioning out of academia.

Complementary activities

In addition, the organising committee have planned two amazing complementary activities: The two exclusive visits are to top-tier facilities: the ALBA Synchrotron and a special guided tour of the state-of-the-art clean room at IMB-CNM.
