The 10 years AEI celebration event, held in Madrid, was inaugurated by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, together with the AEI Director, José Manuel Fernández de Labastida, to mark a decade of commitment to fostering scientific excellence and transparency in Spain.
Among the invited speakers was ICMAB researcher Mariano Campoy-Quiles, who was previously Coordinator of the AEI subarea on Materials for Energy and Environment. During his talk, Campoy-Quiles presented the group’s latest research on photovoltaic materials and technologies for sustainable energy, highlighting the progress made in the field and the importance of continued support from public funding agencies such as AEI.
“My warm congratulations to the AEI for its tenth anniversary! You have consolidated yourself as an independent funding agency with the highest standards in evaluation and transparency. Sincere thank you for inviting me to the celebration! It has been an honor to present our work on photovoltaics for such a distinguished audience,” said Campoy-Quiles.
After his talk, Campoy also participated in a roundtable with other researchers, moderated by Núria Sebastián, from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, and President of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the AEI. The roundtable was about the role of the AEI in the Spanish scientific system and the evaluation process of the AEI regarding the funded projects.

10 years of AEI
Since its creation in 2015, the AEI has become a cornerstone of the Spanish R&D system, managing more than 8,300 million euros in funding and supporting over 57,000 research projects. The Agency also promotes international collaboration, talent attraction, and innovation through various programs such as Ramón y Cajal, technological platforms, and cross-border initiatives.
