The workshop, held at the Palau Macaya in Barcelona, was designed as a collaborative working space. Prior to the event, cMAV members proposed real technical challenges, and during the meeting each participant was able to choose two challenges to which they could contribute knowledge, experience, or solutions.
Within the framework of the session, Alfonso del Rey, Head of the ICMAB Technology Transfer Unit and co-coordinator of the cMAV Nanomaterials working group, presented the different challenges identified in this area.
This edition also featured the participation of Coral Herranz, transfer promoter from the FUNANOSURF group, who showcased the SUBLIMAT sublimation technology. The challenge posed was to raise awareness of this device and identify potential users and validators interested in exploring its applications.
SUBLIMAT technology
SUBLIMAT is a device that enables the complex functionalization of all types of surfaces with organic molecules in a simple and very low-cost way. Based on Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) techniques, this technology significantly expands creative and sampling possibilities in research and development, especially in the fields of molecular electronics, the creation of biochemical sensors, and advanced coatings.
According to Coral Herranz, “
this session is an opportunity to show the device first-hand, so that potential users can understand its potential and assess its applications, as well as for us to benefit from the real challenges faced by end users.”
Results and impact of the workshop
ICMAB representatives actively participated in the co-creation of project proposals that could apply for cMAV funding or be jointly submitted to future public funding calls. The workshop made it possible to return with several project ideas that will be developed in a multi-institutional manner to explore their feasibility and potential to materialize into new collaborations.
In the words of Alfonso del Rey, “these workshops help us stay up to date with what the rest of the cluster members are doing and keep specific people in mind for the future, when an ICMAB group may need a collaborator with a particular profile or set of capabilities.”
From ICMAB’s perspective, participation in this type of initiative reflects the desire to maintain an active connection with the local advanced materials ecosystem and to contribute, based on the knowledge generated, to addressing technological and industrial challenges. The unit’s goal is to strengthen its role as a bridge between academic research and innovative companies in the region.
