Anna Laromaine, from the Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites group, introduced the students to nanoscience and nanotechnology, and then explained some of the new materials and applications for nanomedicine, such as bacterial cellulose, or C. elegans.

After the lecture, the students from Escola Vedruna Gràcia had the opportunity to visit:
- The Nanoquim Platform, our 1,000 class cleanroom, with Marta Riba.
- The Low Temperatures and Magnetometry Lab, with Bernat Bozoo.
- The Soft Lab, with Amable Bernabé.
- The NN group Lab, in which they could see some C. elegans on the microscope, with Amanda Muñoz, Master student at the group.

ESCOLAB is an initiative from the Ajuntament de Barcelona coordinated by Barcelona Ciència (Intitut de Cultura de Barcelona), and Cultura Científica (Institut Municipal d'Educació de Barcelona) programmes, with the participation of the research centers and universities that offer the different activities for the school groups.
More than 240 free different activities for more than 10,000 students for ESO, Batxillerat and Cicles Formatius at research centers, universities and enterprises, in Barcelona, Bellaterra, Cerdanyola del Vallès, Castelldefels, Cornellà de Llobregat, Manresa, Mataró, Olèrdola, Reus, Sabadell, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Tarragona, Terrassa and Vic.
The programme aims at encouraging the research, innovation and dialogue between the students, the teachers and the scientific community in the fields of information technology, life sciences, physics and chemistry, economoy, social sciences, humanities and mathematics.
