Quantum science is transforming the way we process information, communicate, and develop new materials. From quantum computing to ultra-sensitive quantum sensors, research in this field is paving the way for groundbreaking technological advancements.
To celebrate the UN International Year of Quantum Science and Technologies, the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC), the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB, CSIC), and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), in collaboration with the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) and the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE), are organizing a three-day event dedicated to quantum research.
The Quantum Days at UAB Campus (Q-UAB Days) will take place at the UAB Science Faculty (Sala de Graus) on May 5, 6, and 7, from 12:00 to 14:30, offering a unique opportunity for students, researchers, and science enthusiasts to explore the fascinating world of quantum physics and its real-world applications.
The Q-UAB Days will provide insights into the latest breakthroughs in the quantum field, featuring leading scientists from top research institutes who will share their expertise in quantum information, materials, computing and devices.
A 3-day journey into Quantum science
Each session (from 12 to 14.30 h) will focus on a specific area of Quantum Science and Technology, showcasing recent discoveries and cutting-edge developments:
May 5: Quantum Information and Sensing

- Gabriele De Chiara (UAB) – How to solve complex problems with quantum computers

May 6: Quantum Light and Matter
- Veronica Ahufinger (UAB) – Quantum Simulation
- Leticia Tarruell (ICFO) – Quantum simulation with ultracold atoms
- Elena Bartolomé (ICMAB) – Molecular Materials for Quantum Technologies
- Lourdes Fàbrega/Anna Palau (ICMAB) – Superconducting Materials for Quantum Technologies
- Roshan Krishna Kumar (ICN2) – Light Matter THz
May 7: Quantum Chips
- Francesc Pérez-Murano (IMB-CNM) – Quantum manufacturing
- Pol Forn (IFAE) – Quantum technologies with superconducting quantum circuits
- Aron Cummings (ICN2) – Simulating the properties of disordered materials
- Jorge Barreto (Bristol University) – Scalable Quantum Photonics
Each session will conclude with an interactive colloquium, allowing attendees to engage with researchers, ask questions, and discuss the future of quantum technologies.
