Development of Stable and Bright Luminescent Radicals

Abstract
Luminescent radicals have recently attracted growing attention as a new class of luminophores because of their open-shell doublet ground and excited states. Unlike conventional closed-shell emitters, radicals offer unique photophysical properties and new possibilities for functional materials.
In this seminar, recent efforts toward the development of stable and bright luminescent radicals will be introduced. Molecular design strategies for achieving circularly polarized luminescence will be discussed along with applications in OLEDs and bioimaging. Finally, future perspectives of luminescent radicals toward quantum information materials will be outlined.
Short bio
Prof. Dr. Albrecht has been an Associate Professor at the Institute for Materials Chemistry and Engineering, Kyushu University since 2019, where he established his independent research group. He received his Ph.D. from Keio University in 2010 and began his academic career at the Chemical Resources Laboratory, Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he served as an assistant professor. He has been tenured since 2023.
