Delbios Pharmaceuticals SL, a newly established spin-off from the Nanomol-Bio research group at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), has been awarded funding from the
Neotec 2025 Programme (CDTI). This competitive programme supports technology-based start-ups that build on research-driven innovation and knowledge transfer.
Delbios focuses on advancing innovative nanomedicines from advanced preclinical stages to early clinical phases. The company’s mission is to develop cutting-edge pharmaceutical products based on nanotechnology, contributing to the translation of academic research into real therapeutic solutions.
Founded in 2024 by
Nanomol-Bio researchers Nora Ventosa, Elisabet González, and Judit Tomsen, together with
Nanomol Technologies SL executives Santi Sala and Alba Córdoba, Delbios is based at the UAB Research Park and involves the participation of Nanomol Technologies SL and the CSIC. Following the creation of Nanomol Technologies SL in 2010, this represents a new spin-off arising from the Nanomol-Bio group.
Delbios’ business model is based on acquiring patent licenses for products primarily originating from the Nanomol-Bio research group at ICMAB-CSIC, sometimes in collaboration with other academic institutions, hospitals, and companies. These nanomedicines are advanced to early clinical stages and subsequently licensed out to pharmaceutical companies (out-licensing).
Continuing the Nano4Rare project
Delbios has emerged within the framework of the European
Nano4Rare project (ref. 101136772), funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) under the EIC Transition programme. The project will complete the preclinical phase of
nanoGLA, a liposomal-based nanopharmaceutical for the treatment of Fabry disease.
This development builds on previous Catalan, Spanish, and European projects and is protected by a process patent family and supported by multiple patent filings for platform and products, ensuring a strong Intellectual Property Rights Strategy. nanoGLA was designated as an Orphan Medicinal Product by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in 2021.
