#CienciaenelParlamento will join scientists and politicians in Madrid for the first time
On Tuesday, 6 Nov, and Wednesday, 7 Nov 2018, #CienciaenelParlamento will take place at the "Congreso de los Diputados" in Madrid. More than 100 scientists and 100 politicians will meet to debate how scientific knowledge can help the legislative power in making the laws.

A representative from the SOMM Alliance (Alliance of the Severo Ochoa Excellence Centers and María de Maeztu Excellence Units), Joaquim Calbó (Project Manager at CRG and current SOMMa Project Manager) is part of the "Assessment technicians" of the initiative, and Manuel Souto, former ICMAB PhD fellow and currently researcher at ICMoL, is part of the coordination team. Both will attend the meeting these days. We wish them all the luck!
"Ciencia en el Parlamento es una iniciativa ciudadana independiente que promueve la interacción entre científicos y políticos con el objetivo de que el conocimiento científico sea una de las fuentes de información a la hora de legislar. Durante dos días, unos 100 científicos y 100 diputados debatirán sobre las evidencias científicas recabadas doce temas de relevancia social como inteligencia artificial, cambio climático y futuro energético, conciliación familiar o prevención activa del suicidio. La idea es transmitir a los diputados de forma comprensible las evidencias recabadas a partir de de numerosos estudios y entrevistas con expertos de distintas áreas (academia, industria, ONG...) en cada uno de los temas con el fin de enriquecer nuestro sistema democrático. Este tipo de asesoramiento científico está funcionando de manera regular en varios países de nuestro entorno como Reino Unido, Francia, Alemania o incluso en el Parlamento Europeo desde los años 90." During these two days, scientists will present existing evidences on twelve relevant social challenges, so they can be present when politicians legislate. This topics include:
Artificial Intelligence and Big data: future outcomes
Aging: from nutrition to advanced therapies
Personal, famly and working conciliation
Climate change and the future of energy
Active prevention of suicide
Cibersecurity, open data and e-democracy
Plastic contamination
Education based on evidence: mathematics as society motor
Infectious diseases challenges
Emergent technologies in transport and communication
Water management
Social inclusion: migrations and refugees
