Siesta

New development snapshot Print E-mail
Tuesday, 13 October 2009

As part of our new release policy outlined in a previous announcement, we are making available to interested users a snapshot of our SIESTA development work.

Please note that this is NOT A FORMAL RELEASE, just a snapshot of evolving code, and so it is more prone to instabilities and errors. Only expert users are encouraged to use it. For normal production calculations, we recommend the stable and beta versions.

The package (available at the downloads area of www.uam.es/siesta) is called 'siesta-trunk-301'. The 301 in the name refers to our own internal revision number and it has no relationship with the stable- and beta- version numbers.

With respect to siesta-3.0-beta, the main differences are:
- The ability to treat van der Waals interactions with the ab-initio functional of Dion et al.  (PRL 92, 246401 (2004), 103, 096102 (2009)) at a very moderate cost.
- A more complete accounting of CPU-time and memory usage (specially in parallel) reported in files (SystemLabel).times and (SystemLabel).alloc

This snapshot might be superseded at any time by a more recent one, or complemented by a patch file to fix the issues that might be discovered.
